As you know, other than Snsd, there is no other girl group that has been declared (officially) the nation’s girl group by the government.

Although Red Velvet and Twice are called the “nation’s girl group” in some polls, this is not officially valid.

Today we will discuss why Blackpink should be declared the “nation’s girl group” by the government.

Let’s start

Needless to say, Blackpink is the #1 kpop girl group in all major categories. Therefore, in this title, I will not talk about Blackpink’s numerous successes, but the attitude of the government and the public towards Blackpink.

* Korea’s former President Moon Jae-in (2017-2022) called them “Nation’s pride” in 2021. In 2019, he praised Lisa within the framework of Thailand – Korea relations. He said that at the lunch he held at the Blue House in 2022, many foreign leaders mentioned Blackpink’s name and showed interest in Blackpink.

* Korean media gave Blackpink the title of “Nation’s treasure” in 2022. Declared Blackpink “Girl group of the year” in 2022.

* In 2023, King Charles gave the MBE Honor award to the members of Blackpink, which has only been given (in terms of artists) to The Beatles (1965), Adele (2013) and Ed Sheeran (2017). He spoke highly of the girls at the invitation at Buckingham Palace. The Korean President and First Lady were also present at the invitation.

* “If the UK has The Beatles, Queen, Harry Potter and David Beckham, Korea has Blackpink …” – President Yoon Suk Yeol. 

* In 2023, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol mentioned Blackpink again in his speech in the US Congress, saying, “Even if you didn’t know my name, you may know Blackpink …“

* Korean Air (South Korea’s representative airline), became the sponsor of Blackpink’s “Born pink” tour. To promote the “World Expo 2030 Busan” event, the plane was covered in Blackpink. During the sponsorship, Bp’s promotional video was shown on Korean Air planes before takeoff.  Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, Chairman Han Won-tae Cho, and other major guests come to see.

* In 2023, South Korean news channel said, “I’m sure everyone knows these four ladies. Blackpink is the girl group representing Kpop. It would not be an exaggeration to say that they have a special diplomatic mission that rewrites the history of popular music and increases the prestige of the nation.”

* Blackpink became the official ambassador of the United Nations Climate Change conference in 2021. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson sent his own congratulatory letter to the girls.

* In 2022, Blackpink will meet Queen Elizabeth II at the British Embassy in Seoul, South Korea. They spoke at Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday Celebration and the Platinum Jubilee (the Queen’s 70th year as monarch).

* French First Lady Brigitte Macron attended Blackpink’s 2022 Paris concert. The first lady invited the girls to perform at a charity fundraiser she will organize in 2023. The girls accepted this offer and performed. Blackpink also posed with French President Emmanuel Macron, first lady Brigitte Macron and tennis champion Roger Federer.

* American First Lady Jill Biden sent six proposals to the South Korean government for Blackpink and Lady Gaga to perform at the invitation dinner to strengthen US-Korea relations in 2023. However, the offer was not accepted. When Jill Biden, who was insistent on getting what she wanted, could not accept Blackpink’s performance, she invited Rosé to the Asia/Pacific Economic Leaders Cooperation (APEC). Jill Biden referred to Rosé as a “Global superstar.” South Korea’s first lady also attended the invitation.

* The Thai royal family attended Blackpink’s 2023 Thailand concert. A special area was opened for the royal family. 

* The attitude of Korean netizens towards Blackpink for the last 3-4 (after 2020) years is already very clear. They see them as a cause for pride.
