Let’s be honest here, even as a buddy I can admit gfriend wasn’t doing that well anymore. Source Music was the one who disbanded them so they could put all their time and money into le sserafim 🤷
one of the girls moved on to be an actress, and two others didn’t stick with the remaining girls who wanted to promote as a group. i get that they have some solidarity to each other and they collectively will “always be gfriend” but the reality is that if they wanted to stay together, they didn’t have to wait on hybe hand them contract renewals. they made their choices, and surprisingly quickly for as “shocking” as the disbandment came to the public.
This forreal, if they really wanted to stay together, they would have stayed together somewhere else. Nothing was stopping them–the members that DID want to group together even grouped together. It just seemed obvious to me that Yuju wanted to go solo and Yerin and Sowon wanted to do solo activities too.

Pledis never managed Nuest properly. That’s why they got to where they were before Produce. Even after PD, it didn’t look like Pledis would do much than milking whatever they could.
+Pledis could have done what SM did to TVXQ. They got the patent of Nuest+2 members renew contracts. But we have all seen what that would cause, beefs between members, fanwar of fingerpointing…
unfortunately, i really don’t think hybe will disband any sm groups (if they even have the power to do so). all of their groups are generally successful. aespa and rv are no question; they’re the only ones who give sm presence on the digital charts. and even if their boy groups chart badly, all of them make a good amount of money through physicals and concerts, even suju who i think everyone wants disbanded. i also don’t think hybe would risk angering sm fans even more lol i don’t want that because i know if hybe does anything out of line in their eyes, it’s bts they’ll immediately attack for no reason.

You guys are delusional. NCT is making more money than any other SM group. All full album+repackage albums sell a minimum of 3 million. NCT 127 just finished their 700 thousand-person tour. Probably just the tour’s money brought in more money than all the other SM artists did during the year. Nuest disbanded because the members wants to go on their own ways. Not that they are forcedly disbanded.
Gyuri didn’t renew her contract with Pledis because she wanted to be an actress fully.
I mean there are two ex-Pristin members that still in Pledis and they probably make money less than Gfriend as a group but they both are still under Pledis rn , people don’t know because pledis keeping them in the basement and we all know pledis sucks at managing their artists

The GF and Nuest situations are completly different because they were UNDER hybe and the company had the last word, but this is not the case
That is not the case… for now. There was an article published in SK saying Hybe intends to own at least a 40% stake of SM. More shares= more seats at the board= more votes. If that happens then, Hybe will have controlling interest of SM. But who knows.

I think hybe gives option to the company and its upto them what they want to do with the group. GFriend disbandment was because of soumu let’s be clear on that. Gf and fromis_9 had different level of popularity. Gf definitely was more popular than them but it all fell upon the company at the end of the day. One company choose to disband other don’t.
So even if hybe takes over they will most certainly give the company if they want to disband certain groups or not. And then it will be upto them to decide what they wanna do.

Cause of kwangya and metaverse. Lsm was literally spending the whole money on those two. And sm was not in a bad shape. Lsm shares were already up for sale since 2021. He wanted out but he wanted his vision to stay with the company. Sm new heads definitely didn’t want that. And they had some internal fights cause of it. Sm rn is suffering cause of lsm dream and nothing else. Sm was still a stable company. They weren’t bankrupted. Definitely you would know that if you will read all aspect and not only surface internet drama.

If you go look at SMent financial statement you can see they are doing better than they have ever done. For example in 2021 SM net profit was 105 million USD. That is a lot of money to give you some context HYBE’s net profit in 2021 was 107 million USD.
So in moneywise SM is actually doing extremely well earning a lot more profit than JYP and many times more profit than YG.
I don’t like SMEnt but yeah, they were very profitable in 2021, 2022 idk yet
