blackpink wasn’t popular outside kpop spaces in the first place tbh. newjeans is definitely venturing out of that through tiktok/promo/word of mouth. the songs are good, they’re trendy and talented, and they’re kind of seen as bts’ favored youngest sisters in a way, so there’s a lot going for them and a lot of momentum for people to check them out. also idk if #8 is meant to be a drag or not but i personally consider it impressive. it’ll be difficult to build a strong fanbase in the west for a while (i think people will avoid any sort of attachment until the group is older) but i see them going really far.
