Korean Entertainment Producers Association, “NewJeans, please withdraw your irresponsible statements and resume activities”
The Korean Entertainment Producers Association criticized the termination of NewJeans’ exclusive contract.
The Korean Entertainment Producers Association released a statement on December 6, saying, “K-pop is being shaken from the roots due to the NewJeans incident. The association can’t tolerate this anymore.”
The Korean Entertainment Producers Association pointed out, “An exclusive contract is not a simple contract but the result of mutual trust and promises. We are very concerned about the idea that an exclusive contract can be terminated with just a unilateral request.”
They added, “The fact that NewJeans is caught up in suspicions of ‘fake’ by luring artists before their exclusive contracts expire raises further concerns.”
The Korea Entertainment Association further asserted, “The unilateral termination of the contract of NewJeans, a three-year-old group that has achieved rapid success, could set a very dangerous precedent, threatening the sustainability of the Korean popular culture and arts industry.”
The association said, “We demand that NewJeans retract their irresponsible statements as soon as possible and return to the beginning and resume normal activities.” They added, “Furthermore, if they are trying to conduct independent entertainment activities at home and abroad, they should stop doing so immediately and make changes, including having a dialogue with their agency.”
