“Album sales increased thanks to 60 types of random photocards”… The reason why Seventeen sold more albums than Taylor Swift [Min Heejin’s rebellion]
“I wish they didn’t do something like this. The industry is conscious of pushing (the album) out, but if they do, the burden will be passed on to the fans” CEO Min Heejin
‘SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN’ (5.09 million copies) released by Korean boy group Seventeen on October 23 last year sold 2.48 million more copies than American pop star Taylor Swift’s album ( 2.61 million copies) released on April 19.
Can this be considered ‘the power of K-pop’? With this record, Swift ranked No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. She is the singer who ranked No. 1 the most times on the Billboard 200 chart, only after the British band The Beatles.
She’s a singer whose influence on global culture, society and economics is so great that she has coined the new term ‘Swiftnomics’, but when it comes to the Korean album charts, she can’t make it into the top 10. This proves that K-pop has structural problems.
1. 60 types…?
2. Seventeen has many members so 60 types isn’t much but Min Heejin is right
3. K-pop is weird
4. It seems like it’s a weird culture where they buy albums to get photocards and then throw them away…
5. If she didn’t do it with NewJeans then she has the right to say this, but she also did it with NewJeans
6. Not long ago, I saw Seventeen’s albums thrown away on the streets in Japan. This is really disgusting. The K-pop industry is ruined
7. Looking at the comments, it seems like nothing will change… Sigh
8. Since BTS is caught up in controversies, it seems like they’re trying to lure Seventeen’s fans into hitting Min Heejin… HYBE is disgusting
9. 60 types… They are destroying the environment
10. SEVENTEEN sold more albums than Taylor??? Is this possible?
